Palworld keeps its whole map under fog of war until you’ve physically flown, ridden, or swum over every patch of it. MapUnlocker is a Nexus Mods download that deletes that fog in one go. You load into your world, open the map, and every region is already drawn. If you’ve got a second save, a friend’s server, or a base you’d rather be building than a coastline you’d rather not circle for the fourth time, that’s a big deal.
Our Verdict
Best for a second save, a friend’s server, or a base you’d rather be building than a coastline you’d rather not circle again: MapUnlocker removes the fog of war from the entire world map in one go, so every region is already drawn when you load in. Its main drawbacks are that it does not activate fast travel points, and it can get you banned on official servers, where Pocketpair’s mod guidelines prohibit enabling any mods.
This guide covers what the mod actually does, whether it survived Palworld 1.0, how to install it on Steam and Xbox Game Pass, why it sometimes shows nothing, and the ban rules Pocketpair set. Some of it isn’t on the mod page, so it’s worth reading before you drop files into your game folder.
What MapUnlocker does in Palworld
The mod is by a Nexus Mods author called W1ns, first uploaded on January 22, 2024. It removes the fog of war from the entire world map, so unexplored regions show up as if you’d already visited them. Nexus tags it as Cheating, Fair and balanced, User Interface, Utilities for Players, and Quality of Life, which tells you the author and the site couldn’t quite agree on what to call it. The page had 9,339 endorsements when I checked on October 29, 2026.
It’s a UE4SS mod. UE4SS is a scripting framework that injects Lua mods into Unreal Engine games, and Palworld runs on Unreal Engine. That’s why you don’t just drop a file into a Paks folder like you would with a texture swap. You need the loader first.
Does MapUnlocker work with Palworld 1.0?
Yes, according to the author. The page was last updated on July 10, 2026, which is the same day Palworld left Early Access with update 1.100.427, and it’s labeled fully compatible with 1.0 and tested on the Steam release build.
That said, 1.0 wasn’t kind to mods in general. One 2026 mod guide from Palworld Companion says nearly every mod broke on release day, and that the Okaetsu-maintained UE4SS fork most Palworld mods depend on got a 1.0-capable build in July (its last significant update was July 19, 2026). Pocketpair’s own position is that it can’t approve or guarantee any mod for 1.0, and that it won’t help you troubleshoot one. So the mod being marked compatible is good news. It isn’t a promise that your setup works after the next patch.
What MapUnlocker doesn’t do: fast travel and the Sunreach clouds
MapUnlocker does not activate fast travel points. You’ll see where every statue and waypoint sits, but you still have to walk up to each one before you can teleport to it. I think that’s the right call, since it keeps some of the travel loop intact, but it surprises people who expected a full cheat.
The other complaint is Sunreach. Palworld 1.0 added Sunreach, a group of floating sky islands east of Feybreak Island, plus the World Tree, which opens up after you beat the eight tower bosses. People open the map after installing MapUnlocker, see clouds over Sunreach, and think the mod failed. The author says it didn’t. Those clouds are a separate visual effect placed by the developers to hide the island until you progress. They aren’t part of the fog of war, so no fog-removal mod can clear them.
What you need before you install
You need a Windows PC copy of Palworld on Steam or Xbox Game Pass, the UE4SS-Palworld build from Okaetsu’s GitHub (the release is tagged experimental-palworld, and the file is called UE4SS-Palworld.zip), and the MapUnlocker download from the Nexus page. Use that UE4SS build and not the generic UE4SS release from the main repository. The author lists it as a requirement for a reason, since Palworld support is built into that fork.
Back up your save folder first. The author calls it optional. I’d call it free insurance.
How to install MapUnlocker on Steam
Extract UE4SS-Palworld.zip. Copy dwmapi.dll and the ue4ss folder from it into your Palworld Win64 folder, which is steamapps\common\Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64. Next, download MapUnlocker from Nexus and copy the MapUnlocker folder into steamapps\common\Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods. Launch the game and open the map.
One note on mod managers. Palworld Companion says the Vortex mod manager has been installing broken UE4SS builds and recommends doing it by hand. Their source is Host Havoc, and I haven’t tested it, but the author’s own steps are manual anyway, so just follow those.
How to install MapUnlocker on Xbox Game Pass
Game Pass takes more work, and the author says he hasn’t fully tested it there. The method comes from two Nexus users, Crazyon69 and AirborneMuffins. Extract UE4SS-Palworld into C:\XboxGames\Palworld\Content\Pal\Binaries\WinGDK. If that location doesn’t work, some people reported success using C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\Config\WinGDK instead.
Then open UE4SS-settings.ini and set bUseUObjectArrayCache to false. Copy the MapUnlocker folder into the ue4ss\Mods folder under WinGDK. Open mods.txt in that same Mods folder and add a line reading MapUnlocker: 1. Launch the game.
MapUnlocker not working? Fixes that usually solve it
Start with the author’s checklist. UE4SS has to be in the right folder. The MapUnlocker folder must sit directly inside ue4ss\Mods, with no nesting like Mods\MapUnlocker\MapUnlocker, which is the easiest mistake to make when you extract a zip. On Game Pass, the mods.txt line has to be there. And restart the game after any change.
If the game stopped launching entirely after a Palworld patch, the problem is usually UE4SS and not the map mod. Community threads and troubleshooting guides keep saying the same thing: UE4SS tends to break after Palworld updates. To reset it, remove dwmapi.dll, UE4SS.dll, the UE4SS folder, and UE4SS-settings.ini from the Win64 folder, launch the game once to confirm it starts, then reinstall the latest UE4SS-Palworld build and your mods one at a time. If the map is foggy again after a patch, check the Nexus page’s last updated date before you assume you broke something.
Can you use MapUnlocker in multiplayer or on a dedicated server?
The Nexus page says it works in single player, multiplayer, local servers, and community servers. It doesn’t say where it needs to be installed. WinterNode’s server mod list says MapUnlocker needs to be on both the server and every player’s client. Those two sources don’t contradict each other exactly, but they don’t settle it either, so if you host, test with one friend before you tell a whole server to install it.
If you run a dedicated server, there’s one more thing to know. A hosting provider’s knowledge base post from May 2026 reported that UE4SS can interfere with how the server maps player IDs, causing characters to reset on login, and that some users still hit it on the latest builds at the time. That was before 1.0, so I can’t tell you whether it’s fixed. Read it before putting UE4SS on a server that holds anyone’s progress.
Will MapUnlocker get you banned?
On official servers, it can. Pocketpair’s mod guidelines prohibit enabling any mods when you connect to official servers and list account suspension as a possible result. They say the same action may be taken on non-official servers if disruptive behavior is confirmed. A map reveal doesn’t give anyone a fight advantage, but the rule as reported doesn’t carve out harmless mods, so I wouldn’t test it. Single-player and a private server you trust are another matter.
Pocketpair also says that switching a mod off in the game isn’t enough, because some loader files can still run. If you want mods gone before a big update, delete them.
Is MapUnlocker safe to download?
The Nexus page shows a virus scan result of safe to use. Pocketpair warns that some mods in the wild may contain malware, which is true of any game. The stronger check is the source. The author doesn’t allow uploading the file to other sites, so any page that isn’t the MapUnlocker page on Nexus Mods is a copy you shouldn’t trust. Same goes for UE4SS-Palworld. Get it from the GitHub release the author links.
MapUnlocker vs Map and Fast Travel Unlocker
There’s a second mod on Nexus by Mathayuss called Map and Fast Travel Unlocker. It reveals the map and activates every fast travel point, with a config option that turns the fast travel part off. If you want to teleport right away, that’s the closer fit. But its install notes point to UE4SS v3.0.1, which looks old, and I couldn’t confirm it works on Palworld 1.0. Check its last updated date before you commit.
Should you use a map reveal mod?
On a first playthrough, I wouldn’t. Finding the map by walking it is half of what Palworld is, and 1.0 added a lot to stumble upon, including 72 new Pals (287 in total) and the Sunreach and World Tree content. But on a second save, a creative base build, or a server where nobody wants to spend an evening exploring, MapUnlocker saves a lot of wandering and costs you about five minutes to install.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this mod safe to install?
The post gives a mixed picture, so treat it carefully: the Nexus page shows a virus scan result of safe to use, but Pocketpair warns that some mods in the wild contain malicious code, so you should only download mods from trustworthy sources. Back up your save folder first — the author calls it optional, but the post calls it free insurance — and do not use it on official servers, where Pocketpair’s mod guidelines prohibit enabling any mods.
Does it work with Palworld 1.0?
Yes, according to the author. The page was last updated on July 10, 2026, which is the same day Palworld 1.0 was released. That said, 1.0 was not kind to mods in general — one 2026 mod guide cited in the post says nearly every mod broke in the 1.0 patch — so check the mod page for the latest status before you install.
Does it unlock fast travel points?
No. MapUnlocker does not activate fast travel points. You will see where every statue and waypoint sits, but you still need to visit each tower or waypoint yourself to activate it.
